The House That Rocks was founded by Tyris Washington, an international musician, educator, and lifelong advocate for music education.

Growing up in Chicago, Tyris discovered his love for music at an early age and began playing in church. That passion eventually led him around the world, performing throughout the United States and internationally in countries such as Singapore, South Korea, India, China, and Hong Kong. Along the way, he developed a deep appreciation for the power of music to inspire confidence, build community, and change lives.

After settling in the Charlotte area and raising a family, Tyris noticed that music programs were becoming less available in the schools his children attended. Concerned that many young people were missing the opportunity to experience the benefits of music education, he decided to take action.

What started as a small vision with zero students quickly grew through word of mouth, dedicated teaching, and a commitment to excellence. Families responded to an environment that was welcoming, encouraging, and focused on helping students grow both musically and personally.

Today, The House That Rocks is a thriving 3,000-square-foot music education center featuring seven private lesson studios, a performance stage, and a team of passionate instructors serving students of all ages and skill levels.

While the school has grown tremendously over the years, the mission remains unchanged:
